Foil Debossed Books  - Why Our Foil is Different

Not all “foil” is created equal. Many mass-produced or budget guestbooks use vinyl or sticker foils, these are cut from thin plastic film and stuck onto the cover. While quick and inexpensive, vinyl foils may peel or bubble over time, and they lack the depth and tactile feel of traditional techniques.

At My Guestbook, we use traditional hot foil stamping - a time-honoured method where brass type or custom-made dies are heated on a foiling machine and pressed into the cover material, bonding the foil permanently into the surface. The result is:

  • A crisp, lasting impression you can both see and feel

  • Premium metallic foils in gold or silver, for a luxury finish 

  • A look and feel worthy of a keepsake that’s meant to last for decades

It’s the difference between a sticker and an heirloom.

Heritage & Quality

Our foil debossing is carried out on craftsman-made presses made by Metallic Elephant in England - a renowned maker of traditional hot foil machines. Each press is engineered for precision, giving your guestbook a crisp, lasting impression and an heirloom finish that sets it apart from mass-produced alternatives.

Standard Foil Debossing (Hot Foil Stamping)

Our standard inhouse font is 30pt Times Roman Condensed in upper and lower case. We had this set of solid brass type custom made in England so we could offer one or two line standard personalisation on book covers. If you are looking for a different font then consider our Custom Debossing.

  • Best for names and dates (two lines of text in Times Roman Compressed)
  • Standard debossing has an 18 character limit per line

Studio Motifs – New for 2025 Wedding Season

We are thrilled to be able to offer some semi custom foil debossing options for 2025. We have commissionned a selection of pre-made die block designs in our beautiful signature script font. These studio plates are ready to foil stamp onto your guestbook. Designs such as: “Guestbook" can now be foiled onto covers as an off the shelf design or we can add standard debossing to include your names and wedding date under the motif design. Quite often the cost of a having a custom block made can be a hurdle so we came up with some inhouse plate designs that work beautifully for a custom look without the price tag of bespoke.

Custom Debossing – Your Design, Your Way

Create a truly bespoke guestbook with our custom fonts or your own artwork, monogram, or logo. If you have had a wedding logo or monogram designed and want to incorporate the design into your guestbook we can have a custom die block made using your own design. If you don't have a design file we can make you a design similar to the Olivia and Gareth design below. These bespoke books are stunning but are ideally suited to clients who are not short on time as they take longer to make due to the design and die block making process.

How it works:

  • Send us your artwork or ask us to design for you
  • We produce a precision-crafted die block from your design
  • We deboss your book cover with your choice of foil colour
  • Allow 4-6 weeks for these books to allow for block making process

Custom Debossing Artwork File Requirements

To ensure the highest quality finish, your file must meet these specifications:

  • Format: Vector format - EPS , AI or high res PDF set up as per below specs
  • Colour mode: CMYK
  • Colours: Pure black & white only (no greyscale)
  • Size: Exact size required (pricing based on die size)
  • Fonts: Convert all fonts to outlines
  • Line weight: Minimum 0.5pt (very fine lines won't hold up in production)
  • Please note Canva does not support creating vector files 

Laser Engraving

A contemporary technique which uses a high-precision laser to engrave custom details such as names and wedding date into your book cover. This removes the top layer of your cover material, revealing natural tones beneath.
