Helicopters, a peacock feather, the colour purple were just some of the features of Lyndsey & Dave’s February Wedding but that’s not what got them into the record books!
The groom, who used to be a DJ incorporated his interest in records into his wedding in a most unique and delightful way. The former vinyl record shop owner created a seating plan using the covers from old records. As if that wasn’t quirky enough, the finishing touch was, well, you have to read the rest of the article to find out! It’s just so cute, we love it.
Let’s talk about the bride for a moment now, whose passion for whisky had her reaching for the bottle…..(sorry Lyndsey we couldn’t resist that!) But as the couple themselves are fans of Whisky they brought this aspect of their shared passion into the wedding in a special and light filled way.
Before we let you read all about it from Lyndsey and Dave themselves we will make one comment about Wanaka their choice of location to celebrate their wedding….
*SWOON*  That’s all we will say about that…..over to you Lyndsey and Dave……

What was the inspiration behind your wedding theme? Describe the feel you wanted to achieve on the day?

We had a very ‘loose’ colour theme of purple and teal. Purple because I’ve been obsessed by the colour from my early teens (ALL my family and friends know this!) and teal because it’s just a beautiful colour, reminded us of the water across the lake and also matched my opal engagement ring. Right from the start, we decided that we didn’t want everything to exactly match - not just because it would have added a heap more stress but mainly because we didn’t want the ‘theme’ to hinder us in having all the elements we wanted to include on the day. So the bridesmaid’s dresses were purple, the groomsman wore teal ties, the flowers were a mixture of purple, teal and blues, the cake was teal and ivory (with purple rocks around the bottom) and the lanterns in the Pavilion were purple and teal. Everything else was a mismatched but worked! Other than the colours, we wanted elements of us throughout the day. So we had fairy light filled whisky bottles on the tables as table numbers (we both love whisky!), Vinyl record covers as the table plan with the track listings serving as the guests’ names (Dave used to be a DJ and owned his own vinyl record shop), and my hair clip, bouquet and all flower arrangements featured succulents and peacock feather, just as something different!

What did you love about your venue?

It’s proximity to Wanaka Lake and also the staff were amazing! From our first meeting, they put us at complete ease and they were just so experienced we knew we’d be in great hands. And you just can’t beat that stunning view!

How did you display your wedding guestbook on the day?

We displayed it on a cloth covered trestle table, along with photos of Dave and I when we were kids. We had a little container of baby wipes and a discreet basket for used wipes under the table. We had the pen and inks lined up alongside the guestbook and we displayed the instruction card in a purple soapstone photo holder. We also had a couple of glass jars of sweets on the table that would lure people towards the guest book table in case they’d forgotten!

What was feedback from your guests on your guestbook?

They absolutely loved it! They thought it was a great idea and also thought it tied in well with the ink colours chosen. It was so simple to use so everyone participated!

Did your wedding have any DIY elements?

Yes! We made the whisky bottles (supplied by Whisky Galore Christchurch) containing fairy lights to go on the tables, the record sleeves that acted at our table plan were designed by Dave and assembled by both of us, we displayed our baby photos by constructing 2 wooden frames and attaching twine running across to peg them onto. and I made all the name cards to tie in with the purple and teal theme ...... took me days but was well worth it!

Favourite memory from the day?

There are just too many - so hard to pick only one! But the top fave moments have to be walking down the aisle and saying our own personal vows, the ride in the helicopter after the ceremony to the peninsula, and during the speeches the video messages from friends back in the UK that our maid of honour and best man had conspired to create without our knowledge - so touching and meant the world to us seeing and hearing them on the day.

Where have you displayed your guestbook at home?

As soon as it’s framed it will take pride of place our living room. We’re just deciding on a frame that will do it justice!
